Cyber Essentials can help you build trust and win business

With more and more transactions taking place online, it is essential for companies to protect their digital assets and maintain the trust of their customers. One way to achieve this is by obtaining Cyber Essentials certification.

Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed scheme that helps businesses protect themselves against cyber threats. The scheme sets out a baseline of technical controls that companies should have in place to protect against common cyber attacks. By implementing these controls, businesses can reduce the risk of cyber attacks and demonstrate to their customers that they take cybersecurity seriously.

BENEFITS

One of the main benefits of obtaining Cyber Essentials certification is that it instills trust in customers and also supply chains. When customers or suppliers see that a business has achieved Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus certification, they know that the company has taken steps to protect data and other sensitive information. This can be particularly important for businesses that handle financial or personal information, as customers are often hesitant to share this information with companies that they do not trust.

Another benefit of Cyber Essentials certification is that it can help businesses win new contracts. Many organisations, particularly in the public sector, require their suppliers to have Cyber Essentials certification. By obtaining certification, businesses can demonstrate that they meet these requirements and increase their chances of winning new business.

IDENTIFY GAPS

In addition to these benefits, Cyber Essentials certification can also help businesses identify areas where they need to improve their cybersecurity. The basic certification process involves a self-assessment questionnaire and Plus certification is a little bit more involved requiring assessment by an external party which can also include running vulnerability scans. By going through these processes, businesses can identify any weaknesses in their cybersecurity and take steps, or get external help to address them.

CHECK THE REGISTER

If you are unsure if you or a potential supplier are certified, you can check the NCSC Register at https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/cyberessentials/search

This will show if certification has been attained in the last 12 months, or highlight if old certification has expired.

BUILD TRUST

Overall, Cyber Essentials is a good thing to have for any business that wants to instill trust in its customers and protect its digital assets. By obtaining certification, businesses can demonstrate that they take cybersecurity seriously, win new contracts, and identify areas where they need to improve their cybersecurity. With cyber threats on the rise, it is more important than ever for businesses to take steps to protect themselves and their customers.
