Protective Migrations Notice – All Channels – Due WC 15/09/2025
Subject: Act now to prepare for the PSTN switch-off
Header: Your Business Services Will be Impacted — we need you to act now!
“Hello,
Over the past 18 months, we’ve kept you informed about significant changes; your analogue telecoms services provided by BT will be impacted by the nationwide transition away from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and we want to ensure you’re fully prepared.
What’s Changing?
Your business currently uses one or more affected services, so action will be needed:
• Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)
• Business Broadband & Broadband One using the following technology:
o Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)
o Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC)
• Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN2 and ISDN30)
• Featureline (Corporate, Embark)
For information, visit: The PSTN and ISDN switch-off: what it means for you | BT Business.
By 31 December 2025, you must either have a confirmed order with BT for an alternative IP service or provide confirmation that an order has been placed with a new supplier.
If you’ve placed an order with a new supplier, please let us know which lines will no longer be required.
You’ll also need to raise a cease order, after which BT will schedule a future cease date.
Protective Migrations Programme
If no order is raised or migration plan received, we may be able to migrate certain
eligible lines and services to IP based alternatives under our Protective Migrations
Programme, starting January 2026.
With this programme, the migration does not require a visit to your premises or a change of Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), they’ll be handled remotely at our exchanges. However, there may be some changes to your service and pricing – we will keep you informed about these.
General
Please note not all services can be migrated in this way, for example the below
services will not be eligible and will require an order placement to IP based solutions
in order to keep your services running.
• Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN2 and ISDN30)
• Featureline (Corporate, Embark)
• Multi-line PSTN
• BTnet FTTC/ ADSL
Other products may also be affected — we’ll share updates as needed. To talk
through your specific options, please contact [CTA].
Why Protective Migrations Matters
Moving to digital is a key upgrade — especially for Critical National Infrastructure (CNI)
organisations. We’ve signed up to the Government’s ‘PSTN: Critical National Infrastructure Charter’, to provide tailored support throughout your transition.
The PSTN is ageing and increasingly unreliable — Ofcom reported a 45% rise in major
incidents last year. Protective Migrations help reduce risk by shifting to stable, future-
ready solutions.
Next Steps
You should place an order with BT for an alternative IP service or provide
confirmation that an order has been placed with a new supplier by 31 December
2025. Contact [CTA] to get started.
As a reminder, if you’ve placed an order with a new supplier, please let us
know which lines will no longer be required. You’ll also need to raise a cease
order, after which BT will schedule a future cease date.
Emergency Calls After the Switchover
With the move to a fully digital network, we need to let you know that if you use your
BT Services for phone calls, you’ll need a mobile alternative to make emergency calls
to 999 and 112 in the event of a power cut or network outage.
Need help?
If you’ve got questions about the switchover or need support, speak to HM NETWORK / your Account
Manager directly or email our specialist team at switchtoip@bt.com for support.
Thanks,
